F&B Brand Identity Saudi Arabia Hero

Mouthful is a Saudi breakfast and lunch dining concept, a celebration of the meal that most food brands overlook. Built around the egg as both ingredient and icon, the brand launched into the KSA market with a clear point of view: that breakfast and lunch deserve the same care, craft, and character that dinner concepts have long taken for granted. Mike Rock Studio created the complete brand identity, digital presence, and collateral for a food concept that needed to feel vibrant, distinctive, and immediately at home in Saudi Arabia's fast-evolving dining market.

The Challenge:

Launching a food concept from scratch is one of the most competitive briefs in brand design. The KSA dining market, particularly in Riyadh is sophisticated, crowded, and unforgiving of brands that don't have a clear and ownable identity from day one. A new concept has no reputation to trade on, no existing customer base, and no room to be forgettable.

The creative challenge for Mouthful Egg was specific: the brief called for a minimal mark — restrained, considered, immediately readable while the brand world around that mark needed to feel the opposite: vibrant, unexpected, and full of personality. That tension between a quiet logomark and a loud brand environment is one of the most interesting problems in identity design, and one that very few brands resolve convincingly.

The Approach:

The strategic starting point was the egg itself. As a culinary subject it is simultaneously humble and extraordinary, the foundation of an enormous range of dishes, the centrepiece of the most universally shared meal of the day, and a shape with an inherent visual elegance that most food brands exploit lazily. The brief was to use it differently.

The minimal mark approach demanded precision. A logomark stripped to its essentials only works if every remaining element is beyond question, the proportion, the weight, the relationship between the letterforms and any symbolic element. There is nowhere to hide in minimal design, which is precisely what makes it the right choice for a brand with genuine conviction about what it is.

The brand world built around that mark was designed to do the expressive work the logomark deliberately withholds. Colour, illustration, pattern, tone of voice, every element of the wider identity system was developed to create an environment in which the minimal mark could thrive rather than disappear. Vibrancy as a considered strategy, not a default.

The digital identity and collateral were built on the same system ensuring that Mouthful's first appearance in the market, across social media, packaging, and in-venue materials, was consistent, confident, and unmistakably itself.

The Work:

Brand Identity & Guidelines:

A minimal logomark built on precision and restraint, paired with a vibrant brand world, colour system, illustration style, typographic personality that gives the identity life across every application. A comprehensive guidelines document ensuring consistency as the concept grows.

Digital Identity:

A social media presence and digital identity built to introduce Mouthful Egg to the KSA market where food discovery is overwhelmingly social-first and the visual standard is exceptionally high.

Collateral:

A suite of brand collateral covering the in-venue and takeaway experience: menus, packaging, and materials that carry the brand's personality into every customer interaction from first visit to last bite.

The Outcome:

Mouthful launched with a brand identity that punches well above its weight for a new concept, immediately distinctive in a crowded market, consistent across every touchpoint, and built on a visual system with enough range to grow as the concept expands across Saudi Arabia. The minimal mark lives confidently inside a brand world that is anything but minimal: vibrant, unexpected, and designed to make every meal feel like a celebration.

Project FAQ

How do you launch a food concept brand from scratch in Saudi Arabia?

A new food concept in KSA has no reputation to rely on, the brand has to do all the work from day one. The Saudi dining market, particularly in Riyadh and Jeddah, is visually sophisticated and moves fast. Food discovery is overwhelmingly social-first, which means the brand needs to perform on a phone screen before it performs in a dining room. The identity needs to be immediately distinctive, consistent across every touchpoint from signage to packaging, and built on a visual system with enough range to grow as the concept expands. There is no second chance at a first impression in this market.

How do you balance a minimal logo with a vibrant brand identity?

By understanding that the logomark and the brand world are doing different jobs. A minimal mark communicates precision, confidence, and longevity, it's the element of the identity that needs to work at every scale and in every context without relying on colour or complexity. The brand world built around it, the colour palette, illustration style, typography, tone of voice, is where the personality lives. When the two are properly calibrated, the minimal mark feels at home inside a vibrant environment rather than lost in it. The key is that the restraint of the mark has to be intentional, not timid.

What makes a strong brand identity for a breakfast and lunch restaurant?

A clear point of view and the confidence to commit to it. Breakfast and lunch concepts are often caught between casualness and quality, too informal and the brand loses credibility, too serious and it loses the warmth that makes people want to spend a relaxed morning in your space. The strongest identities in this sector are built around a genuine personality: a specific attitude toward food, hospitality, and the meal occasion that runs through every visual and verbal decision. For a market like Saudi Arabia, where the dining scene is growing rapidly and consumer expectations are high, that specificity is what makes a new concept worth noticing.
